TEMPLE (October 19, 2012)—On Thursday evening, the City Council unanimously approved to adopt a resolution authorizing a $2.5 million contract to construct emergency power improvements and building modifications to house back-up generator hardware at the city’s Water Treatment Plant.

The Water Treatment Plant is subject to occasional weather-related blackouts and electric provider brownouts.

The first phase of improvements, completed in October 2009, provided backup power for the plant’s raw water intake system and the membrane filtration facility.

Phase two improvements, commencing with this construction contract, will provide backup power for the conventional treatment facility and the high service pumps which deliver water to the distribution system.

This work will mitigate the damage and impact that the power loss had to the community last summer.

Installation of these backup generators will help avoid that impact in the future.

It is anticipated that phase two improvements will be completed by the summer of 2013.
