TEMPLE (November 20, 2012)--A retired south Texas couple has presented the Scott & White Healthcare Foundation $6 million which will be used for the new bone and joint institute.
Founder of Texas Regional Bancshares and its subsidiary Texas State Bank Glen E. Roney and his wife Rita K. Roney are retired and reside in McAllen.
The Scott & White Bone and Joint Institute is currently under construction in the vicinity of the hospital in Temple and will be named the Glen E. and Rita K. Roney Bone and Joint Institute.
“The $6 million gift will help Scott & White purchase leading-edge equipment for the new building, establish an endowed chair in the department of orthopaedics, and support the exciting research and education efforts in orthopaedics. $2.5 million of the gift will provide a dollar-for-dollar matching gift challenge for the ongoing bone and joint community campaign," a spokesperson said.
The new facility will be completed next September.
