TEMPLE (January 10, 2013)--A Temple man was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Waco after he earlier pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute.
U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr., sentenced Kevin Bradell Mackey to serve five years in federal prison, to be followed by three years on supervised release, and ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine and a $100 special assessment to the court.
Documents filed in court at the time of Mackey's pleading show Temple police, on Aug. 17, 2012, observed a narcotics transaction take place between Mackey and a woman.
Following the drug deal, officers stopped Mackey's car and at some point during the stop, an officer saw a "cookie" of crack cocaine fall out of Mackey's pants.
While the officer was picking the cocaine up, Mackey fled the scene on foot but after a short chase was apprehended and placed into custody.
