TEMPLE (February 19, 2013)--A parent night is scheduled for Thursday for prospective fifth graders and a second meeting will follow for parents of students currently taking the STAAR test.
The meeting for parents of students who plan to attend Travis Science Academy will begin at 6 p.m. in the school’s gym.
Parents will get an overview of what their child’s classroom environment will be like, schedules and receive information on the Middle Years Program (MYP) for children 11 years old through 16 years old.
The academy is the only school in the area to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in which students are required to study at least two languages, humanities, sciences, mathematics, arts, physical education and technology.
As part of the program, in their final year, students will take on a personal project to demonstrate what they have learned.
A different meeting will be held for parents of current students to discuss the STAAR test.
The meeting will review previous scores and address what students can expect on the upcoming test.
That meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., also in the gym.
A question and answer period will follow each meeting.
