TEMPLE (February 22, 2013)--A report indicating that the Temple Police Department has been operating in a fair and consistent manner in regard to diversity was presented to city council Thursday.

Police Chief Gary Smith presented the 2012 bias-based policing report at the Temple City Council meeting which is required by the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

Temple Police collected data from motor vehicle stops for the purpose of the report and findings were then compiled into categories of racial groups.

Data included the use of video and audio recordings from vehicle stops.

In 2012, no citizen complaints of racial profiling by officers were made. Smith says this is evidence of strong ties and relationships between the department and the community.

"I am pleased to report that there is no evidence that bias is used by officers to make enforcement decisions," Smith said.
