TEMPLE (January 18, 2013)—Temple Heat, a basketball team created to keep children off the street, is holding a lay-up-a-thon Sunday to raise money for much-needed uniforms.
The lay-up-a-thon will consist of the team making as many proper technique lay-ups as they can in two minutes.
Local businesses are needed to make a one-time pledge amount or a per lay-up pledge to help give the boys new uniforms and raise money for an upcoming tournament.
It is the team’s hope to qualify for the national tournament in Dallas later this year.
“All tournament fees and associated costs are paid for by money donated from the community,” Coach Rebecca Thompson said in an earlier interview.
The 6th grade boys’ select basketball team was designed to not only create a love of the game, but teach discipline, respect and the importance of good grades.
The event will be held at 3 p.m. at the Wilson Recreation Center on Curtis B. Elliott Drive.
