TEMPLE (June 12, 2012)—A pickup truck slammed into a utility pole late Tuesday morning in Temple, leaving some homes and businesses in the southwest part of the city without power.

The accident happened at around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday on South MLK Drive near the intersection with Case Road, police said.

The woman who was driving the truck was taken to Scott & White Hospital with injuries police said were not life threatening.

The late model Dodge truck snapped the pole and the downed pole and power lines crossed all four lanes of MLK Drive, police said.

The lines were live for about 45 minutes until an Oncor crew could shut off the power.

Police diverted traffic around the accident scene through the afternoon.

MLK was open again to traffic by around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Police did not know how many homes and businesses were left without power as a result of the accident.
