WACO (February 7, 2013)--A man was sentenced Thursday to federal prison time after he earlier pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute the drug.

Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr., sentenced Marlin Fike to serve 2 years in federal prison to be followed by 1 year on supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the court.

A federal grand jury indictment says Marlin Fike and three other men, beginning in January 2003, conspired together to purchase and transport large quantities of cocaine into Central Texas, intending to sell the drugs here and in other cities.

The first count of the indictment charged the group with conspiring to possess and distribute methamphetamine, as well, but that charge was set aside Thursday.

Fike pleaded guilty to count two, the cocaine charge, and the three other men also pleaded guilty to count three, which stated they concealed a financial transaction that dealt with gaining proceeds from the sale of an illegal substance.
