WACO (November 6, 2012)--A motorist hit and killed a deer Tuesday morning, which isn't unusual at this time of year, save for the fact it happened on Washington Avenue in front of the McLennan County Courthouse.

Waco Parks and Recreation supervising Ranger Larry Sims said in his 30 years in the job he's never heard of a deer being downtown.

Another park ranger, however, told Sims he'd seen a deer in the median at North 29th Street and Colcord Avenue on his way to work Tuesday morning.

"I suppose (the deer) could have come up from Cameron Park," Sims said.

He said there are deer that live in the park but not very many and they're only seldom seen.

Waco police were sent at about 7 a.m. to the 400 block of Washington Ave., where they found both the deer and the driver who hit him.

Sims said there's no way to tell from where the animal came, but he said Cameron Park is the most likely place.
