WACO (January 30, 2013)--It took a McLennan County jury only two hours Wednesday to find a homeless man not guilty of sexual assault in connection with a 2011 attack on a local woman.

Jeffrey Glenn Bolton, 50, was on trial for the sexual assault of a woman near the Cotton Palace Park, on Clay Street, that was reported at around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2011.

The victim identified Bolton as someone she knew.

He was arrested in January 2012 in Austin and sent back to Waco for trial.

Bolton was tried as a habitual offender because, prosecutors said, he had been convicted 11 times of various felonies and 10 times for misdemeanors in at least six states.

One of his previous convictions was for a sexual assault in Arkansas and another for assault Galveston County.

“We respect the jury’s verdict,” said Assistant District Attorney Gabrielle Massey.

“Every victim of violent crime deserves to have an advocate fighting for justice for them and our office will stand up for all victims of crime, even those who have no voice of their own. The District Attorney’s office will continue to pursue justice for all victims of crime.”
