WACO (August 7, 2014) A newly finished project at Brazos Park East, formerly Cameron Park East, includes a renovated disc golf course, a pavilion and a hiking trail that connects the 60 acres that make up the park.
A federal grant funded 80 percent of the $2.6 million cost of the project and local tax dollars paid for the rest.
Waco City Planner Tom Balk praised the work of the contractors who preserved a lot of the delicate surroundings while making the park more accessible for residents in the area.
The re-opening of the park comes weeks before the Baylor football team kicks off the season at the new McLane Stadium, a coincidence that Balk says he welcomes.
As a result, Balk says the park will most likely see a lot of traffic, especially among boaters.
Brazos Park East is one of the main access points for those who use the park's ramps.
Disc golf lovers will also have a chance to take advantage of the renovated course in a competition that's scheduled for the weekend before Labor Day.
