Waco: Officer Injured During Theft Arrest Uses Taser On Suspect

WACO (February 21, 2014) A Waco police officer was injured while trying to make a theft arrest and was forced to use his Taser to stun the suspect Friday.

The officer was trying to arrest a woman in connection with the theft of phone cards at around 1:45 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Target store at 5401 Bosque Blvd., police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

The woman fought with the officer, who was hit in the face and received a large scratch on his arm, Swanton said.

The officer used his Taser to subdue the woman, Swanton said.

Tamara Sims, 33, was arrested and was taken to the McLennan County Jail, where she’s facing theft and assault on a public servant charges, Swanton said.

Paramedics treated the officer at the scene, Swanton said.
