WACO (March 5, 2014) Three men were in custody Wednesday charged in the theft of three pairs of exotic boots worth more than $1,700 from a Waco western store.

The three pairs of full-quill ostrich boots were stolen on Feb. 22 from Ritchie’s Western Wear at 4533 West Waco Dr.

The theft was reported after employees discovered the empty boxes from which the boots had been taken, owner Alan Ritchie said.

The theft was recorded by a surveillance camera in the store.

The video showed three men looking at the boots and then shoving them into their pants, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

The video was posted on the police department’s Facebook page and investigators were able to identify the men and secure arrest warrants.

The three turned themselves in Wednesday morning.

Stephen Raishair Wood, 19, William Darrell Simons, 21, and Wesley Takquan Lewis, 18, were charged with engaging in organized crime, online records show.

Wood was also charged with theft over $1,500 and criminal trespass, online records show.

The boots weren’t recovered, but Ritchie said he’s pleased with the outcome.

"It's hard to make that kind of money back, but we're glad that Waco police apprehended the thieves," Ritchie said.
