WACO (December 18, 2012)—Retired Department of Public Safety Sgt. W.H. "Pete" Peterson was sworn in Tuesday in Waco as a new McLennan County justice of the peace.

McLennan County Commissioners voted unanimously on Dec. 11 to name Peterson to succeed retiring Pct. 1 Pl. 2 Justice of the Peace Billy Martin.

Peterson unsuccessfully challenged Pct. 1 Pl. 1 Justice of the Peace Kristi DeCluitt in the Republican primary earlier this year.

He's an Army veteran who also worked as a police officer in Copperas Cove.
