WACO (March 5, 2014) Several downtown Waco streets were blocked Wednesday after a Union Pacific train stalled on the tracks between University Parks Drive and South 6th Street.
The train stalled just minutes after noon Wednesday and was blocking crossings on University Parks, South 3rd, 4th and 5th streets and crossing arms were down on S. 6th Street, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
Police said a crew was sent to try to repair what railroad officials said was a brake problem, but the repairs had not been made within an hour.
Motorists in the downtown area were forced to stop, turn around and find alternate routes, he said.
