WACO (July 31, 2014) Gerald Wayne Howard, 36, was held Thursday in the McLennan County Jail after he was arrested following a traffic stop during which drugs and a firearm were recovered.

Howard was stopped Wednesday for a traffic violation, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

The officer who pulled him over determined he had a prior felony conviction and then noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the car, Swanton said.

During a search of the vehicle the officer found a Baggie of marijuana, both powder and crack cocaine and a handgun.
