WACO (July 31, 2014) Gerald Wayne Howard, 36, was held Thursday in the McLennan County Jail after he was arrested following a traffic stop during which drugs and a firearm were recovered.
Howard was stopped Wednesday for a traffic violation, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
The officer who pulled him over determined he had a prior felony conviction and then noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the car, Swanton said.
During a search of the vehicle the officer found a Baggie of marijuana, both powder and crack cocaine and a handgun.
Howard was ordered held in lieu of bonds totaling $17,000, charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of marijuana, jail records showed.
