WACO (February 14, 2014) Mei and KJ, the Cameron Park Zoo’s two resident Bornean orangutans are expecting, officials announced Friday.

It’s the first pregnancy for Mei, the 15-year-old female acquired from the Brookville Zoo in Chicago.

The father, KJ, is 25 and was born at the Phoenix Zoo.

“Zookeepers have been working with Mei on a variety of maternal care behaviors including breast pump training and presenting the baby to her keepers in order for them to provide supplemental care for the infant,” the zoo said in a press release Friday.

Bornean orangutans are endangered and disappearing at an alarming rate, the zoo said.
