WACO (January 2, 2013)-A short-lived car chase Tuesday night in East Waco led to three arrests and the seizure of both methamphetamine and marijuana.
Alex Albert Aguilar, 21, was ordered held on bonds totaling $22,000, charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, possession of methamphetamine and injury to a child.
Resendo Cesar Torres, 20, and Jennifer Knight, 20, both were ordered held on $1,000 bonds each, charged with possession of marijuana.
Department of Public Safety trooper D.L. Wilson said at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday a DPS trooper on patrol attempted to stop a 1998 Lincoln Continental on U.S. Business Highway 77 but as the trooper tried to pull the car over, the driver sped away.
A short time later the trooper was able to stop the car on Forrest Street.
After searching the car the trooper arrested two men and a woman on various charges and one of the men on an outstanding warrant from Bellmead.
Bellmead police Detective Sgt. Michael Miller said Aguilar had been named in a warrant in connection with an injury to a child that happened last March 26 at a residence in Bellmead.
Miller said the warrant was issued after investigators learned a then 6-year-old girl had been beaten with a belt.
Miller said the beating left deep bruises on the child and that paramedics were called to the scene to evaluate the injuries but the child did not require further medical attention.
