MART (December 7, 2012)--A former guard at the Mart juvenile detention facility waived arraignment in state district court in Waco Friday on charges he struck a student.
Special prosecutor Allison Mitchell said an attorney for Timothy Monroe, 52, waived arraignment in 19th State District Court on Friday.
Monroe, who lives in Waco, is next set for a court appearance on February 8.
Mitchell said Monroe was arrested on Sept. 25 after investigators from the Office of the Inspector General with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department identified him as the man who hit a juvenile inmate at the facility.
The boy was injured but did not require hospitalization, Mitchell said.
Mitchell said Monroe had been employed by TJJD for some time but is not working now, however she did not know whether Monroe had been terminated or suspended.
