WACO (December 1, 2012)--Homeless people who attend breakfast at Mission Waco raised enough money to sponsor a Haitian child.

The idea to raise the money came from Breakfast Club organizer James Wilson.

"Everybody was like wow, how are we going to do that? We ain't got no money, I said with your pennies," said James Wilson.

It took 44 days to raise the $210 it takes to provide books, clothes and one meal a day for a year, for a Haitian child through Mission Waco.

Wilson said that having the homeless people donate their change for good is empowering.

"Here's a group of people that don't have anything yet they sacrifice the little change that they do have and say, I want this kid to be able to eat," Wilson said.

Wilson himself was once homeless. With the help of Mission Waco he overcame his drug addiction and got a job at a local McDonalds.

"To be able to go down there and tell these people that hey, you can make it," Wilson said. "there's millions of people that have came from the streets and are doing something different with their lives."

Mission Waco works with two schools in Haiti and currently sponsors 300 children to attend school.
