WACO (September 18, 2012)—McLennan County Commissioners voted Tuesday to name retired banker Scott Felton to succeed retiring County Judge Jim Lewis and former McLennan County Treasurer Bill Helton to succeed Danny Volcik, who announced his resignation earlier this month.
Volcik defeated Helton in the November 2010 election and took office in January 2011.
Felton was among 18 people who applied to succeed Lewis, who unexpectedly announced his retirement on Aug. 28 at the conclusion of a Commissioners' Court budget session.
He said he was leaving his office so he could spend more time with his wife, who also is retiring at the end of September, and with the couple's three grandchildren.
Lewis was first elected to the post in 1990.
He was next up for reelection in 2014.
Felton will serve the remainder of Lewis' term.
Felton retired in April 2011 as president of Wells Fargo’s Community Bank in Waco, ending a 30-year career in local banking.
He started his career in 1982 as an agribusiness lender at First National Bank of Waco.
He joined Wells Fargo during its merger with Norwest Bank.
He’s been involved with the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo for 30 years, twice serving as chairman.
He also serves as president of the United Way of Waco-McLennan County, and sits on the executive council of the Waco Business League and the executive committee of the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce.
