WEST (March 14, 2013)--The 20th annual West Volunteer Fire Department is turning up the heat at this year’s barbeque cookoff, slated for Friday and Saturday.
The event has brought in dozens of sponsors and one attendee will win a special barbeque grill of their own.
The winner of this year’s raffle will receive a four-burner stainless steel grill with a side burner, double-layer lid and warming rack, donated by West True Value Hardware.
Raffle tickets will go for $1 or six for $5 and can be purchased at the store or In person at the event.
The fun will be held on the WestFest grounds and teams wishing to participate in the barbeque cookoff have until Friday night to enter.
Saturday’s cookoff will be $150 to enter and includes the beef, ribs and chicken portion of the contest.
Money in excess of $10,000 will be paid to the winners and children will also have the opportunity to get in on the fun.
The children’s barbeque cookoff will be held Friday night for those under 16 years old.
Entry forms will be made available at the fair grounds for both the children’s cookoff and adult cookoff.
As always, a horseshoe pitching tournament will be held Saturday and residents will get a chance to earn some cash while also benefitting the volunteer fire department.
Food and beverage tents will be set up during the two-day event.
