FORT HOOD (January 27, 2012)—A pretrial hearing is scheduled next Thursday at Fort Hood for accused gunman Maj. Nidal Hasan, whose attorneys are seeking a delay in the Army psychiatrist’s court-martial.

Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the November 2009 shooting rampage at the post’s Soldier Readiness Center.

He could be sentenced to death if convicted.

His attorneys have filed a motion seeking a continuance, which would delay the start of the court-martial, now scheduled to begin in March.

Hasan, 41, who was paralyzed from the waist down in an exchange of gunfire with two Fort Hood police officers, remains in custody.
