KILLEEN (March 8, 2013)--A Killeen man was arrested Thursday after a handgun was fired inside a home where a woman and an infant were staying.

Brandon Paul Hardy, 25, was charged with tampering with physical evidence.

His bond was set at $20,000.

Hardy was not listed in online Bell County Jail records Friday.

An arrest warrant affidavit says officers were sent just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday to an apartment in the 1000 block of North 14th Street, where a caller reported hearing gunshots from an apartment where a woman and baby were staying.

When officers arrived they interviewed the caller, who said she saw a man holding a gun come out of the apartment and walk around the west side of the building.

One of the officers looked into the apartment and saw an infant sitting on a couch, the affidavit said.

The other officers searched the area around the building and found a silver handgun lying near a fence on the west side of the apartment building, the affidavit said.

Officers found three bullet holes in the ceiling of the apartment where the infant was seen, the affidavit said.

Police interviewed a man at the scene and learned he and a woman had gotten into an argument, but he denied having a gun, the affidavit said.

After one officer showed the man a picture of the gun he found near the fence, the man admitted it was his gun and said he had denied having it because he had been convicted of domestic violence in the past.

The man told officers he had fired the gun and tossed it over the fence to prevent police from finding it.
