FORT HOOD (February 8, 2013)--Former Marine Staff Sgt. Jack Pierce and his family will be handed the keys to their new home Saturday, a home built by more than 50 Fort Hood soldiers and other volunteers.

The home is being offered at no cost, a project that has been in the works since last summer headed by Homes for Our Troops, a nonprofit group that builds specially adapted homes at no cost for military personnel with severe injuries.

Pierce was injured in 2010 while on his third deployment.

He was left paralyzed after the vehicle he was riding in drove over a 300-pound explosive device in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

He and his family will be joined by U.S. Representative John Carter, Homes for Our Troops President Major General Retired Timothy McHale and local officials.

The Pierce family will move into a house on Key Wish Drive at Morgan’s Point Resort.

The keys will be handed over at 11 a.m.
