BELL COUNTY (March 22, 2013)-- A woman took over as administrator of the Bell County Jail Friday.

Nancy Botkin is the first woman to hold the position in Bell County.

She was previously a senior warden at a prison in Gatesville.

She's worked in prisons for more than two decades.

On Friday Botkin commented on the change in facilities during a short press conference at the Bell County Sheriff's Department in Belton.

"In the prison system when the offenders drive up they are clean and sober and ready to come to the prison system and they've had that orientation period but here that's not necessarily the case and they haven't been convicted of anything, so there are some differences but there are some similarities," Botkin said.

Botkin started the sex offender treatment program in Gatesville, which is aimed at helping offenders transition back into society.

On Friday she said she's hoping to start similar programs in Bell County.
