KILLEEN (March 26, 2013) --- A local city council made moves to improve traffic in a busy part of town.

On Tuesday night the Killeen City Council gave the go ahead to start work on the design phases of the Trimmier Road Expansion Project.

Additional lanes and a turning lane have been discussed for the road near Hwy 190.

After a public hearing the council also approved an ordinance to amend the 2012-13 Budget and Plan of Municipal Services of the City of Killeen by increasing the general fund professional services account by $774,000 for the Trimmier Road widening project.

Traffic on the road isn't just a pain for drivers, it has also become dangerous for first responders.

"Especially during peak times of lunch and dinner the congestion is very, very packed with cars it's very hard and we have limited access to proceed with this 40-foot-long vehicle," James Schambers of the Killeen Fire Department said.

Pay raises were also made official in the meeting Tuesday.

In April all fire, police and city employees will get a 2% raise for the cost of living adjustment.
