COPPERAS COVE (April 4, 2013)-The City of Copperas Cove will participate in the statewide "Don't Mess with Texas" Trash-Off as part of the Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful (KCCB) initiative Saturday.

"As long as we have enough volunteers, we are going to be cleaning four different areas," Executive Director of KCCB Silvia Rhoads said.

Volunteers are being asked to show up at 9 a.m. at the GC Services Parking lot by the Town Square shopping center on Hwy 90.

Free coffee, juice, donuts, and t-shirts will be given to volunteers along with supplies needed to clean up litter.

Community members will clean-up from Wolf Road to where Avenue D ends, behind GC services, on Fm 3046 across from Martin Walker Elementary, and on the East side entryway from Constitution heading into Copperas Cove.

Crews will be collecting liter throughout the city until the four areas are clean or until noon, Rhoades said.

Last year, Copperas Cove volunteers collected 74 bags, which came to 480 pounds of liter.

"We had 80 volunteers last year and that was the most ever," Rhoads said. "We're hoping to break 100 this year."
