BELTON (April 5, 2013)--The Bell County Pecan Growers Association is hosting a Pecan Tree Grafting Clinic Saturday at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, Bell County Master Gardener Learning Center on N. Main.
For $20, attendees will gain entrance into the workshop, receive informational handouts and membership into the Bell County Pecan Growers Association and enjoy refreshments.
Since each pecan tree does not grow exactly like its seedling parent, grafting is necessary to attain uniform nut quality.
To graft a tree, tissue must be obtained from the desired tree or variety.
The workshop will include a demonstration and lecture.
The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at 1605 N. Main Street.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
The growers association will be selling graft wood for individuals to purchase and two continuing education units (CEUs) will be provided for individuals with a pesticide applicator license.
Other upcoming events include a private applicator training and testing class on April 19 at the center and a small grain field day in McGregor on April 26.
To register for either event, call the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service at (254) 933-5305.
