GROESBECK (April 5, 2013)--The United Professional Rodeo Association (UPRA) and Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) rodeo is underway at the Limestone County Fairgrounds.
The event, sponsored by the Limestone County Fair Association will take place Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.
However, contestants already began performing Thursday, Limestone County Fairgrounds Manager Kenneth Ellis said.
"We can only fit so many contestants in one rodeo, so we actually started Thursday, they just competed without an audience," Ellis said.
The rodeo will feature bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping and more.
On Friday night, the rodeo will feature mutton busting for the kids, where children five and under can ride a sheep and compete.
The admission charge for mutton busting is $20 and prizes will be awarded.
On Saturday, kids ages 12 and up will be able to participate in a calf scramble, Ellis said.
Those able to catch a calf, will be awarded a 500 gift certificate to buy and show a calf for next year’s rodeo.
There is no entry fee for this event but those wanting to participate must sign up ahead of time.
Tickets for the rodeo are $8 for adults, $5 for children 4-12, and free for children under 4.
The rodeo will be followed by a youth horse show on Sunday at the County Fairgrounds beginning at 2 p.m. to end the weekend events.
