TEMPLE (April 5, 2013)--Churches Touching Lives For Christ (CTLC) and Leadership Temple are working together to raise funds for a new freezer in order to expand the SNACK PACK program that serves low-income students from Temple ISD.
The SNACK PACK program is a weekend food program that allows children in need to take home non- perishable food items home every Friday so that they may have enough food to eat during the weekend.
"There are a group of kids, teachers were finding out were eating Friday and not again until Monday," Leadership Temple Member Tyler Johnson said.
The program serves about 70 students from low-income households per week.
CTLC is currently at capacity and in need of another freezer in order to feed more children from local schools.
Students in the program are identified by school counselors and the CTLC distributes food from various elementary schools, Johnson said.
Leadership Temple will take part in the Arts Festival at the Cultural Activities Center in order to raise money for the freezer needed by CTLC.
The Arts Festival will take place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
"We'll be selling products donated by ACER computer and we've also reached out to local businesses," Johnson said.
Individual donations are also welcomed, Johnson added.
The cost of the freezer is $45,000.
CTLC and Leadership Temple have currently raised $12,000.
