(September 21, 2012)--The Area Agency on Aging of Central Texas and Scott and White Healthcare are joining other organizations in Texas and across the nation in recognizing Falls Prevention Awareness Day Saturday.
A free eight-week workshop which meets two hours per week helps participants view falls as controllable and also helps them minimize their fear of falling and set goals of increasing activity.
According to the Area Agency on Aging, in 2011 an estimated 1137,500 Texans age 60 and older fell.
Over 900 Texans at least 75 years old died from complications associated with falls.
