BELL COUNTY (December 27, 2012) --- Police in Harker Heights, Killeen, and Temple made almost a dozen DWI arrests over the Christmas holiday.
Harpin Myers with the Texas Department of Public Safety said the DWI arrest numbers for DPS were not available as of Thursday, but expected them to add to the number of arrests made by local law enforcement agencies.
Extra officers have been put on the streets in Harker Heights, Killeen and Temple to look for drunk drivers during the holiday season.
Christopher Wilcox with the Temple Police Department said the amount of DWI arrests in Temple were about average compared to last year and expects to see more arrests as the New Year's Eve holiday approaches.
"One DWI is one too many and that's why we have added the extra patrols so all the other drivers can get home safe," Wilcox said.
Area cab companies said they were busy on Christmas Eve and expect to be even busier on New Year's Eve.
They recommend calling a cab at least a few hours ahead of time on New Year's Eve and say the rates will stay the same as normal.
Cove Taxi and Luxury Cab said they've worked it out with some military units at Fort Hood so soldiers can pay their cab fair the next day or will be covered.
Military members should contact their unit or the cab company to see if this applies to their unit prior to making a cab reservation.
Express Cab said they will be offering flat rates on New Year's Eve to certain night club areas around Bell County.
