WACO (September 26, 2012)--A Bartlett man caught up in a postal inspection sting who pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday.
U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr., sentenced James Randall Persky to serve 36 months in prison followed by 5 years supervised release and ordered him to pay a $1,000 and a $100 special assessment to the court.
A court document presented at the plea hearing says Persky was identified as a suspect after federal investigations in Los Angeles, California and Charlotte, North Carolina into a company that provided inappropriate pictures and videos of children engaging in sexual conduct.
In May 2011, a postal inspector sent copies of fake porn catalogs to Persky, from which the document says Persky placed orders.
The postal inspector said he received orders from Persky, including a personal check for $54.95 that requested the items ordered be sent to a mailing address in Bartlett.
The catalog, according to the document, clearly labeled the items as including pictures and videos of boys ages 8, 10, 12 and 13 engaging in sexual activity.
On Dec. 15, 2011, undercover postal inspectors delivered the packages to Persky, who signed for the package.
A few minutes later inspectors served a search warrant at Persky's home, confiscated the videos and pictures and placed him under arrest.
The court document says when Persky was interviewed by agents he admitted he purchased the items and told them he had purchased similar items from the same California company as far back as 1998.
