BELL COUNTY (May 3, 2013)--An award ceremony will get underway Friday morning to recognize and feed hundreds of county employees.
The tradition began in 1983 when all county employees were invited to attend an awards ceremony and celebrate with a BBQ meal.
In all, more than 700 pounds of food was enjoyed that year.
Friday’s ceremony will feed about 800 employees with 1,300 pounds of beef, sausage and potato salad to be provided by county commissioners.
Though county commissioners cook the food, elected officials provide the drinks and department heads provide the dessert.
Service Award pins will be presented to employees with five years of service to thirty years of service.
Four employees will receive the pin for their thirty years with the county.
County employees unable to leave their job sites will be given a take-out plate.
The ceremony will be held in the Assembly Hall of the Bell County Expo Center.
Awards will be presented around noon.
