BELLMEAD (March 6, 2013)--A Bellmead man was held Wednesday in the McLennan County Jail facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge stemming from an incident in which his wife was attacked with a knife.
John William Watson, 49, also faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with an open container of alcohol.
Police were sent at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to H.P. Miles Middle School after employees reported that a man was lying on the ground outside of the building.
When police arrived they found a man, who was armed with a knife, lying on school grounds.
The school was locked down as a precaution for about 10 minutes, Bellmead police Detective Michael Miller said.
The man, whom police arrested at the scene, said he had been attacked while at a neighbor's house, after which he and his wife got into an argument.
During the argument, Miller said, the man pulled out a knife and held it to his wife's throat.
The couple's 15-year-old son intervened and separated the two adults.
The man ran from the scene towards the school and collapsed when he got there, Miller said.
