BELLMEAD (March 6, 2013)--Police officers arrested a 16-year-old boy after a short foot chase Wednesday morning and took a 15-year-old girl into custody after a shoplifting was reported at the Bellmead WalMart.

Bellmead police Detective Michael Miller said officers were sent at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to the store on Interstate 35 after employees reported the shoplifting incident.

Officers were able to arrest the girl at the scene, but the boy ran.

Miller said it took officers less than 5 minutes to find the boy and arrest him.

"We found him hiding in some bushes next to a (nearby) house and arrested him there," Miller said.

Both juveniles face charges of theft more than $50 but less than $500 in the Walmart incident.

They’re both runaways from a detention center, police said.

They were taken to the Bill Logue Juvenile Justice Center in Waco.
