WACO (January 25, 2013)-- A man was in the McLennan County Jail Friday, charged in connection with a sexual assault in East Waco.

The victim called police at around 7:40 p.m. Thursday and reported that a man she met for an unspecified reason in the area of the C&E Motel at 1009 North Loop had sexually assaulted her in the area of Clifton Street and East Waco Drive.

She told officers her attacker was heading to a nearby Church's Chicken restaurant.

Officers found the man, but he ran, police said.

He was arrested after a short chase.

Austin Bernard Phenix was taken to the McLennan County Jail where he was held Friday in lieu of bonds totaling $80,000, charged with sexual assault and evading arrest.

The victim was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
