BELLMEAD (December 5, 2012)--A Bellmead teenager was held Wednesday in the McLennan County Jail after a security guard was assaulted while trying to detain a suspected shoplifter.

Brandon L. Austin, 18, was ordered held on a $20,000 bond charged with robbery.

Bellmead police Detective Michael Miller said officers were sent at around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday to the Walmart store off Interstate 35 where employees reported the theft of a set of headphones from the electronics department.

Miller said the security guard who confronted the man suspected of taking the merchandise was pushed to the floor.

The suspected shoplifter ran, but officers found him a few minutes later about four blocks away and arrested him, police said.

Miller said the security guard was not badly injured.
