Bruceville: Woman Charged In Connection With $40,000 Theft From Local Business

BRUCEVILLE (July 26, 2013)—Sarah Michelle Cross, 31, of Speegleville, has been charged with theft over $20,000 in connection with the embezzlement of $40,000 from a Bruceville company that provides services and products for water and wastewater treatment.

The charge stems from the theft from Lone Star Maintenance & Services, Inc. where Cross worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for three years, the McLennan County sheriff’s investigator Brian Kevil said.

She was fired two months ago after an audit revealed the missing money, Kevil said.

Kevil said $10,000 was returned after the discrepancies were discovered.

Two other women were charged in 2010 in thefts from the company.

One of them, Barbara Elaine Jones, was later sentenced to 10 years probation after pleading guilty to the theft of more than $60,000 from the company, where she was hired as office manager in July 2007.

She was also ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution.
