BRUCEVILLE-EDDY (October 22, 2012)—An autopsy report released Monday confirms that Carol Jean Wagner, 60, who was found dead in her home in July, was suffocated and that her death was a homicide.

The Bruceville-Eddy Police Department received the report Monday.

It lists the cause of death as smothering and the manner of death as homicide.

Wagner's estranged boyfriend, Jerry William Borchardt, 61, has been jailed since his arrest on Aug. 3 in lieu of $1 million bond, charged with murder in the death.

He told investigators he suffocated the woman with a pillow, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Wagner’s son found his mother dead on the night of July 30, wrapped in a blanket and lying on her bed inside her home at 108 Pinto Drive in Eddy.

The body was badly decomposed, authorities said.
