CAMERON (March 21, 2013)--A unique partnership between the City of Cameron and the Milam Community Theater means that the Milam Community Theater will begin its 21st year with an official place to call home.

For the last 20 years theater members have been conducting their meetings at the director’s house and then rehearsing and performing at the Williams Civic Center.

Now, the group will have complete access to the civic center through a 99-year lease with the City of Cameron.

“We will own the entire building and the grounds for 99 years, but officially it still belongs to the city. We will pay a yearly fee to them but it will be ours to use,” Milam Community Theater Board President Kyle Deal said Thursday.

Deal sees the move as a great way to kick off their 20th year and says they will continue to rent out space for parties and events as it becomes available at the civic center.

Civic center operations will be run by theater members and performances will continue there as they have in the past.

Their next show will be held in April and volunteers are always needed, their website says.

Friday's ribbon-cutting ceremony will welcome the civic center’s new managers and will be held at 1 p.m. at the civic center.

The center is located at 408 S. Columbus and the public is invited to attend.
