CAMERON (August 3, 2012)--Kenneth Wayne Montgomery, 53, of Cameron who remained at large for more than two weeks after he fled after a traffic stop, was in custody Friday evening.

The Texas Department of Public Safety’s investigation unit tracked Montgomery to Heidenheimer in Bell County where he was arrested Friday, Cameron police said.

He was being booked into the Bell County Jail Friday evening.

The late-night chase in which Montgomery was able to elude police started on July 16 after Cameron police Cpl. Greg Eakens attempted to stop a late model Ford Expedition in the area of 7th Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The driver refused to stop and Eakens gave chase.

“During the flight by the suspect, he continuously disposed of narcotics to include, crack cocaine and marijuana,” police said in a press release.

“At one point, the suspect threw a large bag of what appeared to be narcotics to an individual that has been identified to the police department.”

The driver abandoned the SUV and fled on foot, police said.

Montgomery is named in warrants charging manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, evading arrest, possession of marijuana in a drug free school zone and is wanted for a parole violation out of Williamson County.
