Central Texas: Four Local BBQ Joints Make Texas Monthly’s Top 50

CENTRAL TEXAS (May 17, 2013)--Among the top 50 BBQ joints in the state as rated in this month’s “Texas Monthly” magazine are four Central Texas favorites.

Restaurants from all across the state were visited and assessed within the last 8 months.

Rated by the magazine staff, Mexia’s Kirby’s Barbeque and Marlin’s Whup’s Boomerang Bar-B-Que are among the top 50, along with Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que in Llano and Miller’s Smokehouse in Belton.

Miller’s Smokehouse and Kirby’s Barbeque are new to the list, which was last reported in 2008.

Kirby’s and Whup’s were two of 18 restaurants that were recognized five years ago.

The restaurants are rated based on their setting, service and history but most importantly the meat.

The brisket score counts the most.

Magazine staff will make their rounds again in 2018.
