(January 15, 2013)--The Humane Society of Williamson County and CenTex Humane Society-Second Chance Animal Adoption Center announced their merger Tuesday.

Both no-kill shelters have merged to form Texas Humane Heroes and have locations in the Greater Austin Metropolitan Area and the Killeen area.

The merger agreement was signed Friday.

The organization will spend the next few weeks consolidating their business operations, conducting staff training and best practice sharing, an organization spokesperson said.

Texas Humane Heroes is headquartered in Leander with an adoption center in Killeen on Clear Creek Road at the former Second Chance Animal Adoption Center.

The centers will be open every day except Monday.

The group hopes the new merger will allow for a “larger footprint” in the Central Texas area and put them on a path to growth and expansion to save more homeless animals.

A “Free Mega Adoption Event” has been scheduled at the Killeen location February 2.
