COPPERAS COVE (November 25, 2013) A Copperas Cove man was held Monday in the Coryell County Jail after police officers discovered that his dogs had been shot.
Johnnie Nelson Randolph, 29, was ordered held in lieu of bonds totaling $25,000, charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals and burglary of a habitation, online jail records showed.
An arrest affidavit issued to Copperas Cove police shows officers were sent at about 8:40 a.m. Friday to a home in the 500 block of West Washington Avenue after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots.
When officers arrived they detained Randolph after he told them he had shot two of his pit bull dogs because they were being aggressive, the affidavit said.
Officers found the two dogs still alive in the back yard of the home, one shot in the face and the other in the back.
It was not immediately clear whether either of the dogs survived.
