COPPERAS COVE (October 24, 2012) --- One man was behind bars Wednesday after an off-duty Copperas Cove Police officer headed off a fight between two men and was threatened with a bat.
Darius Morrow was charged with aggravated assault deadly weapon against a public servant.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the off-duty officer was washing his car at Car Wash USA at 602 North 1st Street when he overheard an argument nearby on Hackberry Street.
When he went to investigate he saw one man walking in the street carrying a bat and another man with a knife.
The officer said it was clear the two men were about to get into a fight so he showed them his badge and said, "Stop police,” the affidavit said.
Then one of the men began to talk toward the officer, threatening him with the bat.
On Wednesday Coryell County Justice of the Peace John Guinn set Morrow’s bond at $100,000.
