COPPERAS COVE (July 30, 2013)--Unstable ground beneath some new homes in Copperas Cove may be the cause of major cracks and foundation issues.
Seven new homes on Lindsey Drive in Copperas Cove have developed cracks.
Homeowner Angie Valandingham, who has lived in her new home at 2007 Lindsey Drive for eight months, said she started noticing huge cracks in her walls in January.
Cracks in the tile of her floor have gotten so bad that pieces have started to fall off.
"I'm not sleeping well, I lay in bed at night thinking what I'm going to wake up to the next day because I literally on a daily basis put up painter's tape for another mark," Valandingham said.
Her warranty company said her home had structural failure and now she's been working with the builder, Neely Homes, to get it repaired.
Wilson Neely, the owner of Neely Homes, said he was getting the insurance company involved and was planning to have experts take soil samples soon to find out what was making the house shift.
Neely said the developer leveled the site with fill dirt, although it's not yet clear whether that's the cause of the problems.
"Yes, we knew there was fill, we put 16 piers under it which I've yet to see any of the other builders do on that street so we took some precautions, was it enough? Who knows...apparently it wasn't," Neely said.
