Brandon Howe Hartzburg (Jail photo)
COPPERAS COVE (February 12, 2014) A Copperas Cove man was arrested over the weekend on a warrant charging arson in connection with a fire that was started in the backyard of the apartment building in which he lives.
Brandon Howe Hartzburg was arrested on Sunday and was ordered held in lieu of $8,000 bond.
His name didn’t appear on the Coryell County Jail log Wednesday.
An arrest warrant affidavit says officers were sent at around 11:50 p.m. on Sunday to the apartment building in the 200 block of Erby Avenue after a caller reported an explosion and flames in the backyard.
When police arrived they found flames and smoke coming from the back of the building and they saw a man using a garden hose to extinguish the fire.
After the flames were put out, police found a pile of clothing and other items from Hartzburg's apartment that had been set on fire, the affidavit says.
Police also found a small can at the scene that contained the gasoline they say was used to start the fire.
