COPPERAS COVE (August 31, 2012)-The 29th session of the Citizens Police Academy will commence on Thursday.

The Copperas Cove Police Department Citizens Police Academy is designed to give interested members of the community insight into the day to day operations of their local law enforcement.

Police say most citizens only come in contact with police when they get stopped for a traffic violation, limiting their view of other situations that police respond to.

During the ten week course, participants are not only instructed but are also given the opportunity to handle situations that law enforcement deals with every day, police said.

According to police, mock scenes give exposure to what it is actually like to be a law enforcement officer.

The course will meet once a week on Thursdays for approximately three hours.

The classes will be held at the Copperas Cove Police Department from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
